High on its facade the modern clock is shadowed by two bells that, with their chimes, spell out the time of piazza Garibaldi, immersed in its sober seventeenth century atmosphere. The building once housed the Senate, a title bestowed upon the city by King Ferdinand of Borbone (in 1777 Piazza was placed as head of six municipalities), and nowadays it houses a private club, on the ground floor, called the “Cultural Club”, and on the first floor, in a hall whose ceiling has been wisely painted with frescos by the Palermitan Giocchino Martorana, the Municipality’s Council holds its meetings.
