| Fundrò Church (Saint Rocco) |
|
This baroque church dating back to 1613 is characterized by an imposing and elegant sandstone portal with rich engravings, that stands out at the top of a round shaped stairway. Initially dedicated to Saint Rocco, in 1622 its name changed to Fundrò, since it was assigned to the Benedictine monks belonging to the same abbey, who were forced to seek refuge in town following the fire that destroyed their convent. To the visitors, the interior of this church with a single nave does not induce the same sense of power and grandiosity they receive when standing in front of the exterior portal. In addition to various paintings, by valid artists, there is an interesting marble Madonna, above the main altar, probably salvaged from the rural monastery. An interesting detail is the sundial above the portal that seems it wants to compete with the modern clock, located high on the front elevation of the nearby Town Hall.
