Built in the lower part of the ‘Monte’ quarter between 1670 and 1785, over the same place previously occupied by Santa Domenica's church, the "Collegiata del Crocifisso", the first church in town that was promoted to basilica, played an important role in the past: you need only to think that it had a chapter of 38 priests assigned to it.
A large central portal, two lateral entrances and a decorated gable with spiral forms, that provides some movement, characterize the exterior of the church. It has a central plan and an apse presbytery, covered with a low cylindrical central cupola. It holds many valuable paintings, a seventeenth century wooden choir, on whose left wall hangs a seventeenth century painting of Santa Domenica, an eighteenth century piped organ and an antique crucifix, that has been carried in a procession for centuries.
