Commenda dei Cavalieri di Malta |
|
Consecrated to Saint John the Baptist from Rodi, it was built between the end of 1100 and the beginning of 1200 by the Knights of Jerusalem. From 1380 it became Commenda of the "Ospitalieri di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme", an order of chivalry, and, then of the Knights of Malta.
The main appeal of this exceptional monument lies in its plain structure. Both the ogival main and lateral portals are of a particular interest. The interior has a rectangular plan with a coffered roof. The church is now used for cultural events.
