Ex Convento dei Benedettini (now Municipality) |
In the 17th century the Benedictine monks, living in the Fundrò monastery, a rural district situated approximately 10 kilometers far from the town, were forced, due to a fire that destroyed both the church and the convent, to move to Piazza,
where they built the new convent, adjacent St Rocco's church, which was assigned to them. Today the convent houses the Municipality offices and the main entrance is through an ornamental arch that leads into a beautiful interior courtyard, which has been diligently restored.
