Holy Week at Piazza Armerina
settisantaThe Holy Week at Piazza Armerina is characterized by moments of particular emotion. On Holy Thursday the believers are used to go to church for the "devotion of the seven churches", but it is on Good Friday that the feast assumes a real dramatic tone.

The ceremony takes place in the "Chiesa del SS. Crocifisso, al Monte" (Church of the Crucifix). Many people flock to see the Deposition from the Cross of the body of Jesus Christ in the coffin, which is then carried on the shoulders of white dressed young men, followed by the Holy Virgin wearing a black cloak, carried on the shoulders of young women, all dressed in black.

What is unique in this feast is that, in the same procession, there is also a Christ Crucified, who is standing on a Globe, symbolizing the divine protection on earth. The medieval laments performed on the way, add dramatic emotions and pains to the infamous process that condemned the "Just".
